Senior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) of the Ohio Wesleyan men's lacrosse team broke school and North Coast Athletic Conference career records this past week.
He tied the records with 6 goals against Wooster on April 5, moving his career total to 225 to tie the Ohio Wesleyan and NCAC records set by Dave Maguire from 1995-98. He scored 4 goals at DePauw on Tuesday to surpass those records, then added 4 goals against Oberlin on Friday. His career total of 233 goals ranks 11th all-time in NCAA Division III.
"The best part of breaking these records has been being able to be part of such a strong program with a rich history of success," Tennant said. "It is an amazing feeling keeping the record here at Ohio Wesleyan."
Tennant mentions that he is thankful for his incredible teammates who have helped him achieve these records.
One goal that Tennant scored that stands out to him in his career is the 1000th goal tallied for Ohio Wesleyan in the history of the OWU vs. Denison lacrosse rivalry.
"That game has always been a part of our history as a lacrosse program and scoring that goal really showed me the support of the alumni," Tennant said.
Tennant was amazed at how many of the OWU men's lacrosse alumni have commented and reached out to the team with their support.
Head coach Mike Plantholt notes that Tennant is one of the best natural finishers he has ever coached.
"That obviously takes a lot of time and effort on his part to develop his skill set, but it also takes an incredible amount of teamwork to get him the ball in good spots on the field. I think Max would tell you his ability to put the ball in the net has as much to do with his teammates as it has to do with himself," Plantholt said.
Tennant has been steady in most games throughout his career and his consistency is one of his strengths, according to Plantholt.
Tennant is looking forward to finishing the season off strong and enjoying his remaining time here with the team.
"I am honored to be a member of the OWU men's lacrosse team and proud to walk on the field with them every day," Tennant said. "I hope to enjoy every step of the grind and finish with a win over Denison and an opportunity at the tournament."
