Junior Alexis Reichardt (Waldo/River Valley) of the Ohio Wesleyan women's golf team set a pair of school records in the Laura Bump Invitational on April 6-7 at the Bishops' home course, Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander.

Reichardt fired a 74 on Sunday to finish with a 152, tying for second place among individuals.  Her round of 74 broke the school record of 75 set by Sarah McQuade at Oberlin Golf Club in 2012.  Her 36-hole total of 152 broke the school record of 156 set by Courtney Tincher at Mill Creek in 2015.

Reichardt was dealing with a back injury leading up to the tournament, so she took time off from swinging and playing to focus on her short game. This really helped improve her game.

"I have always been decent off the tee and was confident in my approach shots," Reichardt said.  "I lacked confidence in my chipping and putting."

Head coach Jana Shipley and Reichardt worked on these elements of Reichardt's game, which ultimately helped her succeed in breaking the school records.

Besides improving her short game, Reichardt mentions that she never let a bad shot discourage her.

"I stayed focused from the first tee shot to the final putt," Reichardt said. "I have been known to get down on myself and my game just because of one bad shot and I didn't let that affect me (last) weekend."

Shipley notes that Reichardt had been trying for the records for the past three years.  The pair have been working very hard on her game, however. Reichardt's lower back pain caused her trouble on the team's spring break trip and Shipley mentions that she could have set the record then.

"We really just rested her back for the past two weeks," Shipley said.  "She did lots of chipping and putting and we completely reworked her putting stroke, which helped her scoring (last) weekend."

For the Bishops' final 2 tournaments, Reichardt plans to continue improving her short game and work on keeping her focus throughout each tournament.

"Our team has been working very hard on all aspects of our game and we are all determined to finish strong this season," Reichardt said.
