Sophomore midfielder Jenn Douglas (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored twice during a 5-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and the Bishops went on to record a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
The win was Ohio Wesleyan's first over Allegheny since 2009, snapping a 9-game losing streak to the Gators.
Alex Zielinski scored twice to give the Gators a 2-1 lead, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with its 5-0 run, evening the game on a goal by freshman midfielder Sarah Hanley (Farmington, Mich.) and taking the lead on Douglas's goal with 13:45 left in the first half. Douglas closed out the run with a goal with 1:16 remaining in the period, giving the Bishops a 6-2 lead at the half.
Allegheny opened the second half with scores by Zielinski and Taylor Vigneri to pull within 6-4, but the Gators would not come closer than that 2-goal margin. Douglas set up one goal and scored another to extend the Bishop lead to 8-4, and after Allegheny closed to within 8-6 on Brenna Lawler's goal with exactly 10 minutes to play, it was sophomore defender Stephanie DeSoto (Sylmar, Calif./Harvard-Westlake School) with a goal to push the lead back to 3.
Douglas and junior attacker Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) each had 3 goals and an assist for Ohio Wesleyan. Senior Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) was credited with 17 saves.
Zielinski led Allegheny with 5 goals. Steph Shakespeare had 9 saves for the Gators.
