Oberlin 18, Ohio Wesleyan 11
Sophomore attacker Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) scored 2 goals and set up another as Ohio Wesleyan took a 10-8 lead early in the second half, but Oberlin closed the game with a 10-1 run and defeated the Bishops in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
The Yeowomen led, 6-5, at the half, and opened the second-half scoring with a goal by Leah Crowther, but sophomore attacker Paige Ross (Boston, Mass./) and junior attacker Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) scored to tie the game at 7.
After a goal by Oberlin's Tess Siciliano, the Bishops responded with a burst of 3 goals in less than 2 minutes, getting back-to-back goals from McElgunn before sophomore midfielder Jenn Douglas (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored off a McElgunn feed for a 10-8 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
Oberlin's Hayley Drapkin and Eliza Amber converted free-position shots shortly thereafter, and the Yeowomen added goals by Bette Imhoff and Ali Wessell less than a minute apart to increase the lead to 13-10.
Douglas rang up a goal on a free-position shot midway through the half to bring the Bishops within 13-11, but Imhoff answered with a goal just 15 seconds later, and the Yeowomen would go on to score the final 4 goals of the contest.
McElgunn led the Bishops with 3 goals and 2 assists, while Baumgartner and Douglas finished with 3 goals apiece. The hat trick raised Baumgartner's season total to 60 goals, making her the second Ohio Wesleyan women's lacrosse player to reach that mark. Senior Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) finished with 18 saves.
Siciliano led Oberlin with 6 goals. Siena Marcelle and Maranda Phillips combined for 6 saves for the Yeowomen.
