Senior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored 3 goals during a game-opening 10-1 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Friday at Selby Stadium.
Tennant scored 6 goals on the evening, raising his career total to 225 to tie the Ohio Wesleyan and NCAC records set by Dave Maguire from 1995-98.
The Bishops took an early lead on a pair of goals from senior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), then got scores from senior midfielder Cole Jamieson (Okemos, Mich.) and Tennant just 8 seconds apart to increase the margin to 4-0 at the 11:06 mark of the opening quarter.
Junior midfielder Lucas Smith (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) and Jamieson followed with scores before Wooster's Ted Wells put the Fighting Scots on the scoreboard with :10 remaining in the quarter.
Sophomore attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) scored off a Tennant feed in the opening seconds of the second period, and the Bishops broke the game open midway through the quarter after Wooster's Rob Driscoll received a 2-minute non-releaseable penalty. During the Bishops' extended man-up opportunity, senior attacker Jack Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Tennant scored goals 13 seconds apart, and Tennant would add another score just over a minute later to increase the Bishop lead to 10-1.
Tennant scored twice during the third quarter after Wooster had closed to within 12-4, then opened the fourth-quarter scoring with the goal that tied the Bishop and NCAC career records.
Tennant finished with 6 goals and an assist. Jamieson added 3 goals and an assist, and Hildebrand contributed 2 goals and 3 assists. Junior Joey Sichenzia (Sayville, N.Y.) had 9 saves during the first 42-plus minutes in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, while sophomore Zach Brasser (Westport, Conn./Millbrook (N.Y.) School) had 6 saves during the final 17-plus minutes.
Shaun Peirce scored 3 goals for Wooster, while Joe Altieri added a goal and 3 assists. Wesley Wagner and Sebastian Boivin combined for 12 saves for the Fighting Scots.
