Skinner Leads Men's Golf at Battle at the Brook

Sophomore Justin Skinner (Dublin/Jerome) led Ohio Wesleyan at the Battle at the Brook, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday at Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky, Ohio.

Wittenberg placed 5 golfers in the top 13 to win the tournament with a 36-hole total of 578, finishing 4 shots ahead of Ohio Wesleyan, which had 2 of the top 4 finishers and counted 3 scores among the top 13.  Washington & Jefferson was third with a 601, followed by Kalamazoo (615), Capital (626), and Mount St. Joseph (647).

Kalamazoo's Parker Pickell fired a 5-under score of 66 on Sunday to win medalist honors with a 140.  Skinner, who held the individual lead with a 70 after Saturday's round, turned in an even-par 71 on Sunday to finish one shot back.

Sophomore Luke Boerner (Delaware/Olentangy) carded back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish in a tie for third place at 142, and senior Will Efkeman (Cincinnati/LaSalle) finished at 148 as part of a 5-way tie for ninth place.

Senior Shane Hoben (Minneapolis, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) tied for 15th place with a 151 and junior Jack Funderburg (Westerville/Central) tied for 18th place at 152.

Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included junior Max Berry (Norwalk), who finished eighth with a 147; senior Blake Dell (Tecumseh, Ontario/Vista), who finished 14th with a 150; senior Aunders Erickson (Portland, Ore./Westview), who tied for 26th place at 158; senior Nick Braydich (Struthers/Cardinal Mooney), who tied for 33rd place at 162; and junior Jay Welch (Hendersonville, Tenn.), who placed 37th with a 167.
