Head Coach: Kris Boey
Last year: 2nd in North Coast Athletic Conference indoor championship; outdoor season canceled
This year: 38 student-athletes on campus, 3 remote learners
What does a practice look like?
"Because of the change in NCAA practice rules this year, we've been able to have much more consistent practices in the fall, working up to 5 days a week," Boey said. "The students have really expressed a desire for normalcy. This gives them the opportunity to do something they love to do and show degrees of improvement.
"There's a good deal of flexibility given the COVID environment, and they're making important decisions about health and safety, but at the same time, allowing students to have a real 'season' feel with opportunities to train and feel good about their progress."
What kind of competition have you had during the fall?
"We've tried to create some opportunities in the midst of workouts to have some fun and test ourselves," Boey said.
"We held an intrasquad meet on Friday, a mixed-gender teams, Red and Black meet. We contested all of the field events and a good portion of the running events, putting a cap on the fall training much like we would do with a December meet in a regular year. It brought the entire team together for the first time this semester. The results were excellent, and showed we are well ahead of the point we were last December."
What do you hope to carry over from the fall semester to the spring semester?
"We've developed camaradarie and a team concept. We hope that the athletic gains and confidence our athletes made throughout the fall stay with us in whatever opportunities we may have throughout the remainder of the year."
What could winter/spring seasons look like?
"Right now, pending approval, we have 4 indoor meets scheduled as dual meets with other schools in our conference. An outdoor season plan has been approved within our coaches group at the conference level, but final approval still remains.
"We know the outdoor season will look a little different in terms of the size of the meets we'll be competing in, but we hope to have a full outdoor season culminating in NCAC and NCAA outdoor championship meets."
