What does a practice look like?
"We started out the first couple weeks with small groups, progressed into 2-on-2 and 3-on-3, then combined into 2 groups," Ungashick Lobdell said. "Now, it's like a regular practice would be, playing 5-on-5, but different in a sense that we don't have any game preparation yet."
What kind of competition have you had during the fall?
"We give drills where we put the players on teams so there's a goal to win. They may score points in a different way, depending on the focus of the teaching, for example, they could score defensive points or ball-screen points, or we could subtract points for turnovers."
What do you hope to carry over from the fall semester to the spring semester?
"Right now, we're stressing continuing to build good habits. We have 3 or 4 concepts we focus on each week. We have the time to build habits and want to make sure they're the right habits. The goal is to have such good habits that when we come back, we can pick right up and not have to relearn. We're trying to put in offensive sets and defensive concepts, and focus on doing 3-4 things as a team really well so we can pick up where we left off."
What could winter/spring seasons look like?
"We're hopeful we can return to campus in mid-January, and we'll have a 21-day reacclimatization period. We are working with other conference coaches to have a schedule, with games starting the first weekend in February, but it's all contingent on how things go (with COVID testing and protocols)."
