Bobby Irwin, women's tennis coach at Ursuline College, has been named women's tennis coach at Ohio Wesleyan University, it was announced by athletics director Doug Zipp.

"I'm thankful to Doug Zipp, the search committee, and Ohio Wesleyan for this opportunity," Irwin said.  "Ohio Wesleyan is such an excellent academic and athletic school, and I'm so excited to be here.  I'm looking forward to building on the success of the program and providing a positive student-athlete experience for our team."

A United States Professional Tennis Association certified tennis professional, Irwin has been women's tennis coach at Ursuline for 2 seasons.  In 2019-20, the Arrows had a 1-2 record when the remainder of the season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are excited to have Bobby join our staff," Zipp said.  "He brings many years of coaching experience at the collegiate and high school levels, as well as a strong background as a teaching professional.

"Throughout the interview process, Bobby demonstrated a passion for the game, for coaching women's tennis, and we are impressed with his vision to lead this program forward."

Prior to coaching at Ursuline, Irwin was head girls coach at Manchester High School, building an 8-player roster that finished 2-19 into a squad of 30 that went 12-7 and sent a pair of doubles teams to the district tournament.  He also was head boys coach at Manchester for 2 years.  Earlier, he was head boys junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Copley High School.

He also serves as director of tennis and head tennis professional at the Congress Lake Club and as a tennis instructor at the Lakewood Racquet Club.

Irwin is a 2011 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, where he played tennis for 3 seasons.  During the spring of his sophomore year, he compiled a 16-0 individual record.  He majored in business management and accounting and graduated as a member of the Honors Program, and won BW's Campus and Community Service Award, selected from all student-athletes, during his junior year.

He is a native of Ashland, Ohio.
