Mansfield, VanderVelde Set School Records

Senior Tyler Mansfield (Columbus/Bexley) and freshman Evelyn VanderVelde (Holland, Mich.) set school records to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the third day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Denison University on Friday in Granville.

Denison was leading the meet with 1335 points to 1185 for Kenyon.  DePauw was in third place with 699 points, followed by Allegheny (643), Wooster (590), Ohio Wesleyan (503), Oberlin (370), Wittenberg (243), and Hiram (240).

VanderVelde finished 11th in the 400 IM in 4:39.32, breaking the school standard of 4:40.91 set by Molly Kuhlman in 1994.  She also won the "B" final in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 10th in 1:08.75 to record Ohio Wesleyan's best individual finish of the day.

Mansfield clocked a :57.69 in the preliminaries of the 100 butterfly, breaking the school record of :58.15 she set in 2018.  She went on to finish 13th in the finals in :58.94.

VanderVelde and Mansfield teamed with junior Emily Fulmer (Bellefontaine) and sophomore Katie Rozsa (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) to finish sixth in the 200 medley relay in 1:49.06.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Elizabeth Dickey (Edina, Minn./Benilde St. Margaret's), who was 11th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.14; Rozsa, who finished 11th in the 100 backstroke in :59.42; Fulmer, who won the "C" final and finished 19th in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.01; freshman Abby Adaway (Stow/Akron Archbishop Hoban), who placed 21st in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.86; senior Maddie Penn (Columbus/Bishop Watterson), who was 21st in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.36; sophomore Brianna Carmack (Ontario), who finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.15; freshman Kamryn Swartz (Upper Sandusky), who placed 22nd in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.51; senior Liz Mayio (Bethesda, Md./The Siena School), who was 23rd in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.17; freshman Lauren Reich (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township), who placed 23rd in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.64; sophomore Meredith Richters (Troy/Miami East), who finished 24th in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.38; junior Abby Jarvis (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial), who was 24th in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.50; and junior Kayla Rondinelli (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek), who placed 25th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.62.

The NCAC championship meet concludes on Saturday, with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals commencing at 6 p.m.
