2nd of 9 at NCAC championship
Junior Marquis Sena (Bronx, N.Y./Institute for Math & Science) repeated as a North Coast Athletic Conference champion and helped a relay team win another conference title to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the NCAC championship meet, hosted by Denison University on Friday and Saturday in Granville.
Wabash won the meet with 207 19/24 points to 115 5/8 for Ohio Wesleyan. Denison finished third with 92 points, followed by Wittenberg (72¼), Oberlin (60), DePauw (48 1/8), Wooster (43 11/24), Allegheny (43¼), and Kenyon (19½).
Sena won his third straight NCAC championship in the 60-meter dash, clocking a :06.98. He also helped the 800-meter relay team win its event, joining forces with freshman Eddy Sherman (Asheville, N.C./Christ School), sophomore Cecil Fletcher (South Point/Chesapeake), and senior Justin Friday (Fort Washington, Md./Georgetown Day School (D.C.)) to win in 1:30.06. Sena also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash.
Also winning All-NCAC laurels were freshman Levi Kilian (Ault, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy), who placed second in the 800-meter run and added a fifth in the mile run; Sherman, who finished second in the 200-meter dash and added a seventh-place showing in the 60-meter dash; Friday, who was third in the 60- and 200-meter dashes; and freshman Caleb Ramey (Sunbury/Big Walnut), who finished third in the long jump.
Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Justin Winfield (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical), who finished fourth in the 400-meter dash; freshman Kaito Iwasaki (Sendai, Japan/Sendai Daini), who was sixth in the long jump; Fletcher, who placed seventh in the long jump; freshman Owen Loughman (Rushville/Thornville Sheridan), who finished seventh in the shot put; and sophomore Ross Eggleston (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll), who tied for eighth in the high jump.
The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Winfield, Sherman, Killian, and junior Kyler Brock (Zanesville/New Concord John Glenn) finished fifth.
On Friday, sophomore Joey Verdugo (Upper Sandusky) won the NCAC pole vault title by clearing 14-5¼. All-NCAC honors also went to senior Jayson Blankenship (Medina), who finished second in the pole vault. Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Cooper Berry (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug), who finished fifth in the pole vault; Iwasaki, who placed sixth in the triple jump; freshman Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who tied for sixth in the pole vault; junior Christian DeWiggins (Marysville), who was seventh in the weight throw; Fletcher, who placed eighth in the triple jump; and freshman Ethan Bradt (Berea/Berea-Midpark), who was eighth in the 5000-meter run. The Ohio Wesleyan distance medley relay team of freshman Jay Tyler McConkey (Cambridge), Winfield, Brock, and freshman Levi Kilian (Ault, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy) finished fifth.
