Eleven Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, it was announced by the NFHCA.
Freshman forward Jo Akpofure (Columbus/Bishop Ready), freshman midfielder Madisyn Bunke (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central), freshman defender Katie Doiron (Monument, Colo./Palmer Ridge), senior forward Jamie Grant (Falls Church, Va./Stuart), sophomore forward Sarah Hanley (Farmington, Mich.), freshman midfielder Veronica Hardman (Sydney, Australia/Ravenswood), freshman defender Floor Jansen (Zeist, the Netherlands/Utrecht Stedelyk Gymnasium), freshman goalkeeper Rachel Leslie (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel), freshman defender Maddie Nelson (Hampstead, Md./New Hampton (N.H.) School), freshman defender Bella Pardi (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson), and freshman defender Genna Paulick (Kettering/Fairmont) were honored by the NFHCA.
The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year. A total of 1943 student-athletes representing 157 schools were recognized as part of the National Academic Squad.
Grant was recognized for receiving National Academic Squad recognition during all 4 years of her collegiate career.
Doiron, Grant, Hardman, Jansen, and Leslie were further recognized as as Scholars of Distinction by the NFHCA. NFHCA Scholars of Distinction are recognized for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester. A total of 321 student-athletes were recognized as Scholars of Distinction.
The Ohio Wesleyan field hockey team also was honored by the NFHCA, receiving a National Academic Team Award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes teams which achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year. A total of 147 Division III institutions received National Academic Team Awards.
Ohio Wesleyan finished the season with a 13-4 record. The Battling Bishops shared the North Coast Athletic Conference championship, Ohio Wesleyan's first conference title since 1995.
