Baumgartner Breaks Career Goals Record

Senior midfielder Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) scored to wipe out an early deficit, but 21st-ranked Denison scored the next 8 goals of the first half and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Friday in Granville.

Denison took the lead with a Liza Farnham goal at the 22:50 mark of the first half.

Baumgartner scored just 32 seconds later to even the contest at 1.  The goal was the 158th of her career, breaking the Ohio Wesleyan career record set by Carrie Williams from 2002-05. 

Farnham answered with a goal to kick off the 8-0 Big Red run, with Kiely Noonan adding 3 goals during that stretch.

Junior midfielder Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.) rang up back-to-back goals to bring the Bishops within 9-3 with 8:00 left in the period, but the Big Red scored the final 5 goals of the half, with Farnham contributing a goal and an assist, to take a 14-3 lead at the intermission.

Baumgartner opened the second-half scoring with a goal and McElgunn added a goal during the second half.

Baumgartner finished with 2 goals, raising her career total to 159.  The 2 points raised her career total to 216, tying Williams for second place on the Ohio Wesleyan list.

McElgunn led the Bishops with 3 goals.  Junior Rachel Albers (Mason) had 8 saves during the first half and freshman A.J. Lashway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) stopped 5 shots during the second half.

Farnham had 3 goals and an assist for Denison.  Maeve Caldwell and Caroline O'Dea combined for 5 saves for the Big Red.
