The Ohio Wesleyan field hockey team was recognized as an NCAA Division III statistical champion, it was announced recently by the NCAA.
The Battling Bishops led the nation in shutouts per game. Ohio Wesleyan compiled 11 shutouts in its 17 games, a mark of 0.65 shutouts per game. The Bishops edged Salisbury (Md.), which recorded 14 shutouts in 22 games for 0.64 shutouts per game.
Ohio Wesleyan finished the season with a 13-4 record. The Bishops shared the North Coast Athletic Conference championship with a 7-1 mark, Ohio Wesleyan's first conference title since 1995, and advanced to the NCAC tournament for the first time since 2012.
