Sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) scored 4 points to kick off a game-opening 14-2 run and senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) knocked down a 3-pointer to close it out, and Ohio Wesleyan went on to defeat Centre in the first round of the Lauren Hill Classic, hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Friday in Cincinnati.

Ohio Wesleyan will face Mount St. Joseph, a 74-73 winner over Spalding in Friday's first game, at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the tournament's second round.

Schipfer opened the game with back-to-back jumpers and senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) followed with a lay-in before a Delaney 3-pointer gave the Bishops a 9-0 lead.  The Colonels got on the board with a jumper by Rachel Jennings, but a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and another Delaney 3-pointer stretched the lead to 14-2 less than 4 minutes into the contest.

Ohio Wesleyan extended the margin to 18-4 on a hoop by freshman post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) before Centre rallied behind a pair of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws from Payton Herold to pull within 26-16 after the first quarter.

Schipfer strung together a pair of jumpers and a 3-pointer to help the Bishops to a 43-22 lead during the final minute of the second quarter, and the lead remained in the vicinity of 20 points through most of the second half before Centre closed the game with a 15-2 run that included 3 buckets from Taylor Garrett.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 17 points, while Joiner finished with 12 and Delaney scored 11.  Griner grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds, and Schipfer dished out 4 assists.

Herold led Centre with 19 points.
