Schipfer, Joiner Help Women's Basketball Pull Away to Win

Sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) had 8 points and senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) added 7 more to help Ohio Wesleyan pull away for a win over Mount St. Joseph in the second round of the Lauren Hill Classic, hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Friday in Cincinnati.

The Bishops took the lead for good with a 10-0 run in the first quarter, with a 3-pointer by by sophomore guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial), a Joiner lay-in, a Schipfer jumper, and another Denison 3-pointer turning a 7-6 deficit into a 16-7 lead. 

Freshman wing Kelsey Wolfe (Apple Creek/Waynedale) drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to open up a 10-point lead after the first quarter, and the Lions narrowed the gap to single digits only once during the second quarter.

Mount St. Joseph was still within 48-40 after a Carlee Daulton jumper early in the third period when Ohio Wesleyan took off on a 13-0 run.  Joiner opened the run with a lay-in and a free throw, and after a bucket by freshman wing Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye), it was Schipfer with 8 consecutive points to close out the run, extending the margin to 61-40.

Joiner led the Bishops with 23 points.  Schipfer followed with 17 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, Denison finished with 15 points, and senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Maddie Haberthy led the Lions with 14 points.
