Schipfer's Jumper Lifts Women's Basketball Over Defiance

Sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) knocked down a jumper with :15 to play to break a 47-47 tie and put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and the Bishops withstood a potential game-winning shot to edge Defiance on Wednesday in Defiance.

Ohio Wesleyan had broken a 44-44 tie with a 3-pointer by freshman guard Kiley Wolf (Massillon/Perry) with 2:38 left in regulation time.

Defiance pulled even when Lauren Criblez converted a 3-point play with 2:13 remaining.

Each team then got 3 stops before Schipfer stole the ball from Nicole Sims and scored on the break with :15 to play.

The Yellow Jackets had a look at the game-winner, but Kylie Brinkman's 3-pointer was off the mark.

Ohio Wesleyan opened up 6-point leads in both the first and second quarters, but Defiance battled back to tie the score each time.  The Bishops moved to a pair of 5-point leads on third-quarter hoops by freshman post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes), but the Yellow Jackets came back to take the lead, 41-40, on McKenzie Cooper's 3-pointer to end the third period.

The fourth quarter was a treat for fans of outstanding defense, with the teams combining for 15 points and the contest remaining a one-possession game for the entire period.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Schipfer and senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) shared the team lead with 3 assists apiece.

Brinkman led Defiance with 11 points.
