Freshman wing Kelsey Wolfe (Apple Creek/Waynedale) buried a 3-pointer to help Ohio Wesleyan narrow an 8-point deficit to 3 in the closing minutes of play, but Marietta held on for a non-conference win over the Bishops on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Pioneers had taken a 65-57 lead when Erin Hahn followed her own missed lay-in and scored on a putback with 2:29 left in regulation time.

Sophomore guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) sank a pair of free throws with :51 left, and after forcing a turnover with :30 remaining, the Bishops closed to within 3 on Wolfe's trifecta with :08 to go.  Forced to foul, the Bishops fouled Devin Hefner with :05 left, and Hefner sank the first of 2 free throws for the final 4-point margin.

Marietta assembled a 10-0 first-quarter run that included a pair of buckets from Jill Congrove to take a 14-7 lead late in the period.

Ohio Wesleyan put together an 11-2 burst during the second quarter, with Wolfe, sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg), and Denison contributing hoops before Wolfe connected from downtown and freshman post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) scored on the break for a 23-19 Bishop lead.  Later in the period, Schipfer and Griner hit lay-ins before another Wolfe 3-pointer stretched the lead to 32-24 for the Bishops' biggest lead of the game.

The Pioneers opened the second half with 3 straight layins by Makenzie Wilson that tied the game at 34, then saw Hahn and Kelly Levering convert 3-point plays on the way to a 42-39 advantage.  The Pioneers closed out the quarter with a Levering 3-pointer and free throws from Olivia Gribble and Hahn to take a 52-46 lead into the fourth quarter.

Schipfer connected on a 3-pointer to kick off the fourth period, but after Levering answered with a 3-pointer for Marietta, it would remain a 2-possession game until Ohio Wesleyan's rally during the final minutes.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 16 points.  Denison finished with 15, Griner scored 13, and Wolfe tallied 11.  Senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds and senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) recorded a team-best 4 assists.

Wilson and Hahn had 12 points apiece for Marietta.
