Sophomore Haji Sidibe (Columbus/Beechcroft) recorded a pin to close out the evening's scoring as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Rio Grande in a dual meet on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.
Sidibe put an exclamation point on the meet by pinning Rio Grande's Michael Peneski with :45 remaining in the second period of the 285-pound match.
The RedStorm had taken an early lead when Lucas Chess recorded a technical fall over freshman Chase Wolfingbarger (Hilliard/Dublin Coffman) at 125.
Ohio Wesleyan moved in front when junior Donovan Ortiz (Port St. Lucie, Fla./American Heritage) and senior Max Beard (Palo Alto, Calif./Gunn) won by forfeit at 133 and 141 pounds respectively.
Senior Bryce Wittman (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and Rio Grande's Mitchell Freeman faced off at 149 pounds, with Wittman leading for most of the match before Freeman posted a takedown in the final seconds to force overtime, then recorded a 7-5 decision in the extra period.
Senior Caleb Blake (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) brought the momentum back to the Bishops with an 11-3 major decision over Kaylin Foust at 157.
Senior Jaret Lowry (Litchfield/Buckeye Senior) and Rio Grande's Thomas Mabry squared off in an edge-of-the-seat match at 165 pounds. Mabry recorded a takedown during the last minute of the third period to take an 11-10 lead, but Lowry came back for a takedown in the final seconds for a 12-11 win.
Freshman Tyler Bodovetz (Streetsboro) and senior Ross Eggleston (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) followed with victories, Bodovetz with a 3-0 decision over Kiah Smith at 174 and Eggleston with a 7-2 verdict over Owenn Meyer at 184.
Sophomore Marquel Henry (Dayton/Chaminade Julienne) was another last-minute winner, taking down Logan Huggins during the final minute for a 4-2 decision at 197.
The meet was bracketed by a pair of exhibition matchups. Sophomore Tommy Brunty (Barberton) opened the evening with a 16-9 decision over the RedStorm's Phil Severance. The evening's final matchup pitted Severance against freshman Joe Connor (Fort Collins, Colo.), with Connor recording a pin with 1:42 left in the first period.
