12/17/2021 9:00:00 PM

Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 69, Waynesburg 39

Senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) scored 5 points during the second quarter and sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) rang up 11 points during the third quarter, and Ohio Wesleyan set a school record by allowing only 4 points during the second quarter on the way to a non-conference win over Waynesburg on Friday in Waynesburg, Pa.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 7-0 run, with senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) contributing 5 points and Schipfer adding a bucket, but the Yellow Jackets ran off the next 10 points, highlighted by a Kacey Kastroll 3-pointer, and the teams were deadlocked at 12 after the first quarter.

The Bishops scored the first 13 points of the second period, with Delaney starting the run with a lay-in and adding a pair of free throws and a jumper later in the run, and freshman post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) closed out the burst with a lay-in that made it 25-12 just past the midway point of the quarter.

Brooke Fuller and Anika Dansby scored as Waynesburg closed to within 25-16 at the half, and the Yellow Jackets were within 27-20 after Fuller's jumper exactly 2 minutes into the third period.

Schipfer scored Ohio Wesleyan's next 7 points with a free throw and a trio of buckets as the Bishops opened up a 34-23 lead, and Ohio Wesleyan would hold Waynesburg without a field goal for the final 5-plus minutes of the quarter, pulling away with hoops from Delaney, Joiner, Schipfer, and sophomore point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) on the way to a 45-26 lead.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 19 points, Delaney had 11 points, and Joiner scored 10 points and led Ohio Wesleyan with 12 rebounds.  The 4 points that Ohio Wesleyan allowed during the second quarter broke the school record of 5 set against Allegheny on Jan. 14, 2017.

Fuller led Waynesburg with 10 points.
