Ohio Wesleyan 71, Allegheny 47

Senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) scored back-to-back buckets to cap an 11-2 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead for good, and senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) dished out a career-high 10 assists in leading Ohio Wesleyan to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Monday afternoon at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Gators opened the matinee with a pair of free throws by Branygan Bianchin, but the Bishops responded with a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) before a Jenna Manke lay-in gave the lead back to the visitors.

The Bishops scored the next 8 points, with sophomore guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) and Delaney driving for lay-ins before Joiner hit a lay-in and a jumper for an 11-4 Ohio Wesleyan lead with 6:38 left in the first quarter, and the Bishops would lead by an 18-8 count after the first quarter thanks to a 3-pointer by sophomore point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson).

Allegheny narrowed the deficit to 20-13 with a Bianchin 3-ponter and an Emily Lauer lay-in early in the second period, but Ohio Wesleyan took off on a 10-0 run that included a pair of Denison 3-pointers sandwiched around baskets by Delaney and Joiner.

A Chloe Rabold 3-pointer and a Gabby Culotta lay-in brought the Gators within a dozen, but the Bishops scored the next 9 points of the game, with Homan converting a 3-point play, Delaney sinking a pair of free throws, and Joiner and Schipfer hitting lay-ins, and the margin would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the contest.

Denison led the Bishops with 19 points, Joiner scored 18 points, and Schipfer finished with 16 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.  Delaney's 10 assists surpassed her previous best of 7, accomplished twice.

Lauer and Rabold had 11 points apiece for Allegheny.
