Men's Track & Field Opens Season at Wittenberg

Senior Joey Verdugo (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Upper Sandusky) posted Ohio Wesleyan's best individual finish to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the Tiger Opener, hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday in Springfield.

The meet, which included competitors from Anderson, Cedarville, Central State, Centre, Denison, Kenyon, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Wesleyan, Rio Grande, Trinity, Wilmington, and Wittenberg, was not scored.

Verdugo placed third in the pole vault.

Other standouts for the Bishops included senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley), who finished fifth in the weight throw; junior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who placed sixth in the pole vault; and senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who finished seventh in the weight throw.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of freshman Trey Theobald (Archbold), junior Zach Murrey (Logan), freshman Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), and junior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson) finished third.
