Junior Peyton Howell (Canton/GlenOak) won the high jump in leading Ohio Wesleyan at the Tiger Opener, hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday in Springfield.

The meet, which included competitors from Anderson, Cedarville, Central State, Centre, Denison, Kenyon, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Wesleyan, Rio Grande, Wilmington, Wittenberg, and Wright State, was not scored.

Howell, who was atop the NCAA Division III rankings with a jump of 5-8½ during last year's indoor season, picked up where she left off by clearing 5-7¼ to win the event.

Senior Chase Patton (Delaware/Hayes), who was ranked No. 2 in the nation in the pole vault during last year's indoor season, also posted a strong start to the season with a mark of 10-11¾, good for a second-place finish.

Other standouts for the Bishops included senior Zoe Price (Bellefontaine), who finished second in the 60-meter hurdles; senior Khloe Dubenion (Columbus/Academy), who placed third in the weight throw; freshman Abbie Waddell (Marion/River Valley), who placed third in the pole vault; sophomore Sarah Watson (Fremont/Ross), who was fifth in the high jump; freshman Lia Sadd (Avon), who was sixth in the shot put; sophomore Lizzi Nagy (North Royalton), who finished seventh in the weight throw; freshman Nia Smith (Westerville/Olentangy Orange), who placed seventh in the triple jump; and junior Madison Manns (Kenton/Bellefontaine Logan), who tied for seventh in the high jump.
