Ohio Wesleyan University will not be allowing spectators at indoor athletics events until further notice, it was announced by athletics director Doug Zipp.
"Delaware County continues to be at a Level 3 public emergency (very high exposure and spread), and we as a university have made the decision to not allow in-person gatherings or events on campus," Zipp said. "In following this decision, we will not be allowing fans, spectators, or athlete guests at any indoor athletics facility until further notice."
The Ohio Public Health Advisory System includes 4 levels, with Level 4 being the most urgent. Level 3 advises residents and visitors to limit activities as much as possible, including limiting gatherings of any number.
Winter sports affected include basketball, swimming & diving, and track & field. All of the scheduled home events for men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, and women's swimming & diving can be viewed on the
Ohio Wesleyan athletics streaming portal.
"We will continue to monitor this situation on our campus," Zipp said. "It is our hope that at some point we will have the opportunity to invite parents and/or students to attend an athletic event. Should we be at that point we will certainly share details about how we will do this safely."
