Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 55, Wittenberg 44

Junior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) scored 5 points and freshman guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) added 4 more as Ohio Wesleyan opened the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run, and the Bishops set a school record in closing out a win over Wittenberg on Friday in Springfield.

Wittenberg had taken a 41-39 lead on a 3-pointer by Kristie Kalis with 1:03 remaining in the third period.

Junior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) opened the fourth quarter with a lay-in to knot the score at 41, and Delaney and Denison followed with lay-ins on successive possessions to hike the lead to 45-41.  Denison then fed Delaney for a score, and Delany split a pair of free throws midway through the quarter to stretch the margin to 48-41.  Denison capped the Bishop run with a lay-in for a 50-41 lead with 4:01 to play.

Kalis split a pair of free throws at the 3:13 mark to end the Tigers' 7-plus-minute scoring drought, and when Kylee Slone followed with a lay-in, Wittenberg was within 50-44 with 2:22 remaining.

Joiner answered with a lay-in on the Bishops' ensuing possession, and a Denison lay-in pushed the lead into double digits with 1:27 to play.

The Bishop defense allowed only 3 points during the fourth quarter, breaking the school record for fewest points allowed in a fourth quarter (6) set at Manchester on Nov. 17, 2017.

Wittenberg had opened the game with a 10-2 run, getting a pair of 3-pointers from McKenna Baker, but the Bishops remained within striking distance, keeping the margin in single digits before coming back to tie the game at 25 on a bucket by freshman post Lauren Campbell (Portsmouth/Notre Dame) in the final minute of the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan took its first lead on Joiner's lay-in at the 7:50 mark of the third quarter, and it would remain a one-possession game for the rest of the period, setting up the Bishop defense's fourth-quarter performance.

Joiner led the Bishops with 20 points.  Delaney scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds, and Denison also contributed 11 points.

Baker and Abigail Yunker scored 9 points for Wittenberg, marking the first time since Feb. 10, 2010, that the Bishops did not allow an opposing player to reach double figures in scoring.
