Senior outfielder Cole Antle (Grove City) singled in a run to give Ohio Wesleyan a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth, but Case Reserve rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday in Cleveland.

In the nightcap, freshman outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) smashed a 2-run double for a 5-4 Bishop lead in the seventh, but the Spartans pushed across 3 runs in the eighth and went on to complete the sweep.

The opener saw sophomore outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) loft a sacrifice fly in the first and junior third baseman Colin Spranger (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) single home a run in the fourth as Ohio Wesleyan took leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the Spartans answered each time.

In the top of the ninth, senior second baseman Austin Harper (Sycamore/Mohawk) drew a one-out walk, junior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) followed with a single, and Antle singled home pinch-runner Blake Farley (Hudson) to give the Bishops the lead.

Cole Jarrett opened the bottom of the ninth by reaching on a throwing error by Spranger, and was forced at second by Flynn Lenahan. After Lenahan moved to second on a wild pitch, Benjamin Stawicki beat out an infield single to put runners on the corners.  Zack Carinci followed with a double down the leftfield line, scoring Lenahan, and Stawicki came in to score on an error by freshman leftfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) on the play.

Graham and Spranger each went 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Senior righthander Ethan Soderna (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) worked the first 6.2 innings, striking out 5 and walking 2, and freshman righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was charged with the loss in relief.

Tyler Horvath was credited with the win in relief for CWRU.

Junior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) singled home 2 runs and later came in to score on a wild pitch as Ohio Wesleyan took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap.

The Spartans took a 4-3 lead in the fifth with the help of RBI singles by Jarrett and Lenahan, and a run-scoring triple off the bat of Tre Armstrong.

Padilla's 2-run double in the seventh made it 5-4, Bishops, but Nick Talarico lined a one-out triple in the bottom of the eighth and scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 5-5.  Jacob Lott followed with a walk, and Connor Stephenson beat out an infield single before Jarrett singled in the go-ahead run and Lenahan plated an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Graham and Antle had 2 hits apiece for Ohio Wesleyan.  Junior righthander Gavin Pulliam (Franklin, Tenn.) was charged with the loss in relief.

Patrick O'Connor was the winning pitcher in relief for CWRU.  Carinci worked the ninth inning to record a save.
