McGeeney Sparks Men's Lacrosse Past Wittenberg

Senior midfielder Conor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller) scored to kick off runs of 4-0 and 3-0 that propelled 19th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan to a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division win over Wittenberg on Saturday in Springfield.

Wittenberg's Lucas Klever gave the Tigers an early lead with a goal at the 11:31 mark of the opening quarter.

McGeeney evened the score midway through the first period, starting a run of 4 straight Bishop goals.  Junior attacker Whit Stopak (North Canton/Hoover), senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.)  and junior midfielder Jack Damon (Portsmouth, R.I.) followed with scores, and the Ohio Wesleyan defense clamped down on the Tigers, holding them scoreless for the remainder of the half as the Bishops took a 4-1 lead at the break.

Noah Mackin opened the second-half scoring with a goal that brought the hosts within 4-2, but McGeeney and senior midfielder Max Johnston (Perrysburg/St. Francis DeSales) answered with scores for a 6-2 Bishop lead.

Wittenberg's Ben Rodell recorded a man-down goal that made it 6-3 late in the third quarter, but McGeeney opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a goal, and Stopak and Damon followed with goals to stretch the margin to 9-3 late in regulation time.

McGeeney led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Stopak contributed 2 goals and an assist.

Senior Zach Brasser (Westport, Conn./Millbrook (N.Y.) School) finished with 8 saves for Ohio Wesleyan.

Max Cavellier recorded 12 saves for the Tigers.
