Wabash Sweeps Baseball

Senior third baseman Austin Harper (Sycamore/Mohawk) drove in a run to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard, but Wabash went on to a win in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Wednesday at Littick Field.

In the nightcap, senior outfielder Cole Antle (Grove City) knocked in 2 runs, but the Little Giants outslugged the Bishops to complete the sweep.

The visitors took the lead in the first inning of the opener, loading the bases with 2 out before Matthew Annee doubled off the rightfield wall to plate 2 runs.  A.J. Reid singled home a run in the second and Brayden Lentz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Ohio Wesleyan scored in the sixth as junior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) singled and scored on Harper's double.

Wabash added 5 runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Blake Juerling's pinch-hit grand slam.

Sophomore righthander Michael Lipscomb (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Kase Lawson finished with a 4-hitter for Wabash, striking out 8 and walking 2.

Cole Vassilo's grand slam helped Wabash score 6 times in the top of the second, and the Little Giants added 6 runs in the top of the third, hitting 4 home runs in the inning.

The Bishops chipped away at the deficit with an RBI single by senior catcher Zack Stiteler (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) in the fourth, a 2-run single by Antle in the fifth, a run-scoring double by sophomore second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) in the sixth, and an RBI double by Stiteler in the seventh.

Neff was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman righthander Jason Monos (Amherst/Steele) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Dylan Scheid allowed 3 hits over the first 4.0 innings to record the win for Wabash.  Sean Smith pitched the final 3.0 frames to receive a save.
