Ohio Wesleyan men's basketball coach Mike DeWitt and women's basketball coach Stacey Ungashick Lobdell each celebrated milestone coaching victories during the 2020-21 season.
DeWitt chalked up his 400th career victory when the Bishops defeated Denison, 50-45, on Feb. 11. DeWitt's career record stands at 405-304 (.571) in 27 seasons as a head coach, including a mark of 355-229 (.608) in 22 seasons at Ohio Wesleyan, as the Bishops completed their season with a 6-6 record.
DeWitt attributed his success to the team and its hard work.
"The coaching milestone is simply a reflection of having some great players and assistant coaches during my coaching career. Like most of the programs at OWU this year, I think our biggest success this season was simply making the commitment to doing what was necessary to compete and play contests. I thought this commitment really demonstrated how important athletic participation is to all of the student-athletes here at OWU," DeWitt said.
Ungashick Lobdell recorded her 100th career win when Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wooster, 84-32, on March 6. The Bishops closed out the season with an 8-2 record (.800), Ohio Wesleyan's highest winning percentage since the 1999-2000 team went 23-3 (.885).
"This milestone is a something that has taken a lot of commitment and hard work from all of our players and coaches who have been with me for this time. I am grateful to have been surrounded by such strong women. Our biggest success was actually having a season," Ungashick Lobdell said.
Both the Battling Bishop men's and women's team will lose only one senior this year and look to carry over this success to their 2021-22 seasons.
