Oberlin 16, Ohio Wesleyan 10
Freshman midfielder Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) scored 3 goals to lead an Ohio Wesleyan comeback, but Oberlin withstood the rally and went on to a win in a non-divisional matchup of North Coast Athletic Conference rivals on Saturday in Oberlin.
Senior midfielder Jenn Douglas (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) gave the Bishops an early lead, courtesy of an assist from senior midfielder Megan McElgunn (Cohasset, Mass.), but Oberlin scored the next 8 goals, getting 3 from Leah Crowther during that run, for an 8-1 lead.
Sophomore attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) ended the Oberlin run with a goal at the 8:01 mark of the opening half, and Klabus scored twice in response to goals by Oberlin's Emily Shimabukuro to bring the Bishops within 10-4 at the intermission.
Klabus scored again just 24 seconds into the second half, and when freshman midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.) and Egan followed with goals, Ohio Wesleyan was within 10-7 with more than 25 minutes remaining in the game.
McElgunn converted a free-position shot to make it an 11-8 game with 19:07 to go, but Oberlin scored the next 3 goals to get some breathing room, and despite goals by Klabus and DelGallo, the Yeowomen were able to close out the contest.
Klabus led the Bishops with 4 goals. Egan and DelGallo scored twice apiece for Ohio Wesleyan.
Senior Rachel Albers (Mason) made 9 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.
Crowther finished with 3 goals and an assist for Oberlin, while Tess Siciliano had 3 goals. Maranda Phillips recorded 12 saves.
