Freshman third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark), senior outfielder Madison Bridger (Pataskala/Licking Heights), and senior outfielder Erica Buchanan (Hilliard/Davidson) drove in runs during a 4-run fourth inning that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Denison rallied for a win in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Saturday in Granville.

In the nightcap, freshman catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) lined a 2-run single during a 6-run fifth inning that gave the Bishops the lead and Buchanan tied a school record, but Denison retook the lead and held off a late Ohio Wesleyan comeback to complete the sweep.

Back plated a run to wipe out a 1-0 deficit in the fourth inning of the opener, and an RBI single by Bridger and an RBI double from Buchanan gave Ohio Wesleyan a 4-1 lead.

Denison got 2 runs back in the bottom of the inning, with Abby Arabia singling home a run.  The Big Red tied the score at 4 on Arabia's RBI single in the fifth, and took a 5-4 lead on Gabi Dufresne's run-scoring double in the sixth.

Sophomore first baseman Makenna Waddell (Marion/Pleasant) had 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game for the Bishops.

Sophia Parpala was the winning pitcher in relief for Denison.

Lexi Knipp and Caitlin Ellwanger knocked in runs to give the Big Red a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap.

Senior outfielder Aimee Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) drove in a run to make it a 2-1 game in the third, but the Big Red scored 4 times in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Ellwanger's 2-run triple.

Ohio Wesleyan erupted for 6 runs in the fifth, with freshman first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) smashing an RBI double, Bias singling home 2 runs, freshman second baseman Sydney Hoover (Utica) doubling in a run, Back singling home a run, and Buchanan plating a run with an infield out.

Denison responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, getting RBI singles from Knipp and Clara Wolff, and the Big Red added 4 runs in the sixth on a 2-run double by Dufresne and a 2-run single by Noelle Chovanec.

The Bishops rallied in the seventh, with Back and Buchanan singling in runs before an RBI single by Duckworth brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Denison's Taylor Faulkenberg got the final 2 outs to end the game.

Buchanan went 4-for-5, tying the school record for hits in a game, scored 2 runs and drove in 2 runs.  Back was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Duckworth went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI.

Buchanan was charged with the loss in relief.

Parpala was the winning pitcher in relief, and Faulkenberg was credited with a save.
