Ohio Wesleyan University will induct 8 former Battling Bishop standouts — 5 of them All-America or Academic All-America® selections — and a former coach and athletics director into the University's Athletics Hall of Fame. The 9 Hall of Fame inductees are:
• Kara Dickinson '95 -- A 2-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection as a field hockey goalkeeper, she capped her career by receiving NCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. She took over the starting goalkeeper spot as a sophomore, making 94 saves while allowing 18 goals and posting 2½ shutouts while helping the Bishops to a 12-4 record and a 10-2 mark in the NCAC, good for the team's seventh straight conference title. Her junior year, she led the NCAC with an .892 saves percentage and received first-team All-NCAC and second-team all-region honors. As a senior, she again led the NCAC in saves percentage (.906) and was named NCAC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-NCAC as Bishops went 15-4 overall and 11-1 in NCAC, winning the conference title and advancing to the NCAA playoffs. She was a first-team all-region pick and was selected to the CFHCA North-South all-star game.
• Jason Fogelson '01 -- A 2-time All-America attacker in men's lacrosse, he twice led the NCAC in scoring. He opened his freshman season as a starting attacker and finished with 10 goals and 7 assists. He moved to midfield as a sophomore and won a starting spot, compiling 16 goals and 29 assists, the latter ranking second in the NCAC. He was a second-team All-NCAC selection that season as Ohio Wesleyan went 14-2, with a 4-1 conference slate. As a junior, he returned to attack and led the NCAC in scoring with a conference-record 100 points (62 goals, 38 assists) that ranked second on the OWU all-time season list. He was a first-team All-NCAC and second-team All-America pick after the Bishops went 14-4 and were part of a 3-way tie for the conference title. As a senior, he finished with 43 goals and 36 assists, and his average of 6.08 points per game led the NCAC. He repeated as a first-team All-NCAC and second-team All-America pick and was named NCAC Player of the Year after leading Bishops to a 9-4 record, including a 5-0 NCAC mark and the conference title, and was a North-South All-Star game selection.
• Clarence Hendricks '34 -- One of the state's premier collegiate basketball big men (a 6-3 center) of the era, he led Ohio in scoring as a sophomore with 193 points in 18 games (10.7 average), and led the Buckeye Conference with 131 points in 12 games (10.9 average). He scored a game-high 21 points in a 45-37 win over Denison. Named first-team All-Buckeye by the Associated Press and All-Ohio as a sophomore, he was a second-team All-Buckeye pick by AP at forward as a junior. He suffered a knee injury in the opening game of his senior year and saw action in only a few games, but he was able to play with brothers Russ and Clark that season. Ohio Wesleyan tied for second in the Buckeye Conference in 1932, placed second in 1933, and won the title in 1934.
• Roger Ingles -- Served as Ohio Wesleyan's athletics director from 2004-17 and as baseball coach from 1984-2005. His teams totaled 15 NCAA Division III postseason appearances and 8 NCAC championships. He posted a career record of 645-322-8, a winning percentage of .666. Ingles' teams won at least 20 games during each of his last 20 seasons. In addition to serving as Ohio Wesleyan's head baseball coach, he also was an assistant coach in football and women's basketball, helping both of those teams win their first NCAC championships. As athletics director, he founded the Dale J. Bruce Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner, expanded the full-time coaching staff and the athletic training staff, worked to improve gender equity across the athletics spectrum, and helped to improve Ohio Wesleyan's athletics facilities. The Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center, the Luttinger Family Tennis Center, and Margaret Sagan Field were built during his leadership; Edwards Gymnasium, the Morrill Strength and Conditioning Room, and the Simpson Querrey Fitness Center were completely constructed/renovated; and Selby Stadium, the George Gauthier Track, the Jay Martin Soccer Complex, and Gordon Field House received significant improvements and upgrades. Ohio Wesleyan won North Coast Athletic Conference all-sports championships during the 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09 academic years.
• Kirk Jackson '91 -- An All-America selection as a football linebacker, he began his freshman season as a starting running back and ran for 221 yards before moving to linebacker. In his first game on defense, he recorded 11 tackles and intercepted a pass in a 24-21 win at Kenyon. He finished with 15 solos and 13 assists for 28 total tackles. As a sophomore, he led the Bishops in tackles, reaching double figures in 8 of 10 games. He had 7 tackles for loss, 69 solos, 39 assists, 108 total stops, and was a second-team All-NCAC selection. His junior year, he reached double figures in tackles 5 times and led the team in tackles with 107 (48 solo, 59 assist) and had 1 sack and 3 tackles for loss. He was a first-team All-NCAC selection and an honorable mention All-America pick by the Football Gazette. OWU went 8-1-1 and shared the NCAC championship with a 5-1 record. As a senior, he shared the team lead in tackles with 72 (31 solo, 41 assist) with 1 sack and 5 tackles for loss. He repeated as a first-team All-NCAC selection. Ohio Wesleyan went 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the NCAC. His career totals were 163 solo stops (fourth on the OWU career list), 152 assists (third on the OWU career list), and 315 total tackles (fifth on the OWU career list).
• Sharon Rymut '10 -- A 6-time North Coast Athletic Conference individual champion in track & field, she was twice named NCAC Field Events Performer of the Year. As a freshman, she won the discus (130-1) and was All-NCAC with a third in the hammer as OWU won the team title at the NCAC outdoor championship. Her sophomore year, she placed sixth in the shot put to help OWU repeat as NCAC indoor champion, then won the discus (123-0) and hammer (school-record 142-1) as OWU won the All-Ohio outdoor championship. At the NCAC championship meet, she repeated as discus champion (121-3), won All-NCAC honors with a third in the hammer, and was seventh in the shot put as OWU finished second. As a junior, she set a school record with 44-4¼ in the weight throw at the All-Ohio indoor meet. At the NCAC outdoor meet, she won the discus (118-0) and the hammer (134-6) and placed fourth in the shot put, receiving Field Events Performer of the Year honors as OWU reclaimed the conference championship. Her senior year, she placed fourth in the shot put as OWU won the NCAC indoor meet. At the NCAC outdoor championship, she repeated as Field Events Performer of the Year, winning the discus (127-7) for the fourth consecutive year and the hammer (157-1) for the second straight year, and finishing eighth in the shot put. She competed in the NCAA Division III championship meet, placing 11th in the discus and 16th in the hammer. She was a 6-time NCAC individual champion and an 8-time All-NCAC honoree, and was part of 7 conference championship teams.
• Andy Schillig '09 -- He was a 2-time All-America selection and 2-time first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference pick in men's golf. His sophomore year, he ranked second on the team with a 75.57 average. He tied for eighth place with a 233 in the final 54-hole NCAC event, and received first-team All-NCAC honors. At the NCAA Division III tournament, he tied for 10th place with a 303 for second-team All-America honors. Ohio Wesleyan won 5 tournaments, won the NCAC championship, and placed third at the NCAA Division III tournament that season. His junior year, he ranked fifth on the team with a 75.86 average, playing in every event. He placed 10th at the final 54-hole NCAC event for honorable mention all-conference recognition, and tied for 78th place with a 315 at the NCAA Division III tournament. Ohio Wesleyan won 6 tournaments, won the NCAC championship, and finished 14th at the NCAA Division III tournament. As a senior, he ranked second on the team with a 74.68 average. He placed second with a 222 at the final NCAC event, and was a first-team All-NCAC selection after finishing second in the NCAC standings with a 663. He tied for 22nd place at the NCAA Division III tournament with a 297 for third-team All-America honors. Ohio Wesleyan won 5 tournaments, won the NCAC championship, and finished seventh at the NCAA Division III tournament.
• Sarah Shinn '10 -- An Academic All-America® honoree, she also was a 2-time North Coast Athletic Conference individual champion in track & field. As a freshman, she placed 15th at the NCAC cross country championship to win honorable mention All-NCAC honors and was 36th at the NCAA regional meet. Indoors, she won the 800-meter run and helped the 1600-meter relay team to a conference crown as OWU won the NCAC championship. She competed in the NCAA Division III championship meet, finishing 10th in the 800-meter run. Outdoors, she won the 800-meter run in an NCAC-record 2:14.96 and helped the 1600-meter relay team to a win as OWU won the team title at the NCAC championship. Her sophomore year, she finished 19th at the NCAC cross country championship to win honorable mention All-NCAC status. She returned from injury for her junior indoor season, and at the NCAC indoor championship, she anchored the 1600-meter relay team that won the final event to pull into a tie for the team title, also finishing second in the 800-meter run, the mile run, and the long jump. Outdoors, she was second in the 800-meter run and helped the 1600-meter relay team finish second as OWU won the team title. Her senior year indoors, she helped the distance medley relay team to a win and the 1600-meter relay team to a second-place finish, also placing fourth in the 800-meter and mile runs and fifth in the long jump, as OWU won the team title. Outdoors, she was second in the 800-meter run and helped the 1600-meter relay team to a third-place finish as OWU won the team title. She capped her career with second-team Academic All-America® honors. She was a 2-time NCAC individual champion and a 10-time All-NCAC honoree (2 cross country, 8 track & field), and was a member of 4 NCAC champion relay teams and 7 All-NCAC relay teams.
• Tyler Wall '11 -- He was a 3-year All-America selection and 2-time North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year pick as a men's soccer forward/midfielder. As a freshman, he led the team in scoring with 8 goals and 4 assists for 20 points, ranking ninth in NCAC in scoring. He was a second-team all-region and All-Ohio selection and a first-team All-NCAC pick. His sophomore year, he shared the team lead in scoring with 23 points on 9 goals and 5 assists, with the 23 points tying for fourth in the NCAC. He won third-team All-America and first-team all-region, All-Ohio, and All-NCAC recognition. As a junior, he led the NCAC with 11 assists and scored 9 goals, with his 29 points ranking third in the NCAC and his average of 1.32 points per game ranking fifth. He was a first-team All-America, all-region, All-Ohio, and All-NCAC pick, and was named NCAC Offensive Player of the Year. His senior year, he scored 19 goals and added 5 assists for 43 points, leading the NCAC in goals, points, and scoring average (1.87 points/game) and tying for fifth in the league in assists. He scored the game-winning goal in both games of the NCAC tournament, starting a string of 5 consecutive postseason games in which he scored goals. He won third-team All-America honors from the NSCAA and first-team All-America honors from D3soccer.com and repeated as a first-team all-region, All-Ohio, and All-NCAC selection as well as NCAC Offensive Player of the Year. During his career, he compiled 45 goals and 25 assists for 115 points.
The 2021 class of inductees will be the 61st to be inducted into the Ohio Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame and the 46th to include women.
