Lance Shearer, head girls tennis coach at Buckeye Valley High School, has been named director of tennis at Ohio Wesleyan University, it was announced by athletics director Doug Zipp.

"I am excited to be the next director of tennis at Ohio Wesleyan University," Shearer said.  "I want to thank Doug Zipp, the faculty, and the teams for giving me this opportunity.  After interviewing with the teams, I knew we would be a good fit.  My main goal is leading them to excellence in academics and athletics.  I am blessed to be able to surround the tennis program with other coaches in my network to work on the athletes' individual skills and team development.  We also will emphasize strength, speed, agility, and nutrition to help our athletes reach their potential.  We will work hard to have a holistic approach in developing the athlete mentally, physically and strategically.  You will continue to see our program succeed."

"We are looking forward to having Lance be our director of tennis and lead our men's and women's programs," Zipp said.  "He has great passion and has already started to build relationships with our student-athletes.  He brings a fresh perspective and he understands the student-athlete and what they need to get better and build a strong culture in our programs."

Shearer has served as the Barons' tennis coach since 2017-18.  Prior to coaching at Buckeye Valley, he was an AAU/traveling team coach in central Ohio for 12 years, with 23 of his players going on to play at the collegiate level.

He is a 1992 graduate of Heidelberg College, majoring in public administration.  During his career with the Student Princes, he was a 4-year letterman in tennis and played basketball and lacrosse.  He continued his education at the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

Shearer is a native of Delaware, Ohio.
