Men's Track & Field Wins Ron Althoff Relays

1st of 4 at Ron Althoff Relays

Senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley), senior Joey Verdugo (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Upper Sandusky), and freshman Logan McSwords (Marysville) won events for Ohio Wesleyan to help the Bishops take the team title at the Ron Althoff Relays meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Friday at Gordon Field House.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 114 points to 111 for Mount Vernon Nazarene.  Muskingum finished third with 95 points and St. Mary-of-the-Woods had 43 points.

Walker won the weight throw with a mark of 53-2¾.

Verdugo won the pole vault by clearing 14-6.

McSwords won the high jump with a leap of 5-5.

Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were the 1600-meter relay team of junior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), freshman Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), junior Zach Murrey (Logan), and freshman Trey Theobald (Archbold), which broke the tape in 3:31.84; and the 1600 sprint medley relay team of freshman Mason Myers (Perrysville/Hillsdale), senior Cooper Berry (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug), freshman Coleman Kegler (Columbus/Upper Arlington), and freshman Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales), which won in 3:57.43.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Kaito Iwasaki (Sendai, Japan/Sendai Daini), who finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump and fourth in the 60-meter dash; junior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who was second in the pole vault; senior Christian DeWiggins (Marysville), who finished second in the weight throw; Kegler, who placed third in the high jump; Berry, who was third in the pole vault; and Myers, who was fourth in the triple jump.

The 800-meter relay team of Iwasaki, Murrey, freshman Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and Theobald placed second.  The 200-meter distance medley relay team of McSwords, sophomore Evan Miller (Wooster), junior Ethan Bradt (Berea/Berea-Midpark), and junior Clay Sturts (Lexington) finished third, as did the 4000-meter distance medley relay team of freshman Preston Pethtel (Heath), Bauer, Morris, and Miller.
