Verdugo, 800 Relay Win for Men's Track & Field

4th of 6 at Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge

Senior Joey Verdugo (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Upper Sandusky) and the Ohio Wesleyan 800-meter relay team of junior Kaito Iwasaki (Sendai, Japan/Sendai Daini), junior Zach Murrey (Logan), freshman Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and freshman Trey Theobald (Archbold) won events at the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday in Berea.

Carnegie Mellon won the meet with 173 points to 112 for Case Reserve.  John Carroll finished third with 75 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (68), Oberlin (47), and Baldwin Wallace (25).

Verdugo won the pole vault by clearing 14-5¼, and the 800 relay team broke the tape in 1:34.41.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Iwasaki, who finished second in the 55-meter hurdles and sixth in the 55-meter dash; junior Levi Kilian (Ault, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy), who finished second in the 800-meter run; junior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who was second in the pole vault; senior Cooper Berry (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug), who placed third in the pole vault; senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley), who was third in the weight throw; senior Christian DeWiggins (Marysville), who finished fourth in the weight throw; and senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who placed sixth in the weight throw.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of junior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), freshman Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), Murrey, and Theobald finished fourth.
