An early goal from junior midfielder Megan Knee (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) put Ohio Wesleyan on the board and the Bishops continued to carry the momentum for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Denison on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
The Battling Bishops were able to get on the board first with a goal from Knee. The goal came from a penalty corner that Knee was able to slip right through a sea of white jerseys into the back of the cage.
Freshman midfielder Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) gave Ohio Wesleyan a 2-goal advantage to close out the first quarter of play. Wright's original shot was deflected by a Denison defender but Wright was there to collect the ball again, sending it straight into the back of the cage.
Senior midfielder Veronica Hardman (Blenheim, New Zealand/Ravenswood) closed out the first half with a goal off of a corner to give the Bishops a 3-0 lead. The Ohio Wesleyan offense dominated the first half, getting 3 shots off, all of which resulted in a goal, compared to Denison's 2, with just one on goal which sophomore goalkeeper Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) easily collected in the box.
Junior forward Emily Streeter (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) had a clear run up the field with no white jerseys surrounding her, but Denison keeper Athena Joannou came out of her cage to collect the ball, keeping the score at 3-0 to end the third quarter.
Denison won a corner on which they were able to get 2 shots off, both of which McCarthy was able to save to keep a clean sheet before being subbed out for sophomore goalkeeper Brynn Schlensinger (Arnold, Md./ Broadneck).
The Bishops outshot the Big Red, 7-6. McCarthy recorded 3 saves and Schlesinger was able to record 1 in the Bishop cage.
