Ohio Wesleyan 73, Hiram 46

Senior post Molly Delaney (Delaware/Olentangy) scored 6 points and senior post Cierra Joiner (Centerburg) added 5 more as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 14-4 run and never looked back on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram on Saturday in Hiram.

Joiner put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a lay-in and then converted a 3-point play, and Delaney followed with a 3-point play for an 8-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.  Hiram answered with a Selena Vargas free throw and a 3-pointer from Cici Bright, but Delaney and sophomore guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) sank 3-pointers to stretch the lead to 14-4.  Another Denison 3-pointer gave Ohio Wesleyan a 21-10 lead after the first period.

Hiram rallied early in the second period with a 6-0 run that featured a pair of Vargas lay-ins, but Denison reeled off 8 straight points in a span of 61 seconds, launching a pair of 3-pointers 25 seconds apart and following with a jumper.  Ohio Wesleyan would pull away with a 10-2 run later in the quarter, with freshman wing Chelsea Edington (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) contributing 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, on the way to a 48-26 halftime lead, and the margin would remain at least 20 points throughout the second half.

Denison led the Bishops with 19 points.  Joiner added 18 points and had a team-best 8 rebounds, and Delaney scored 12 points and finished with 8 assists.

Maddie Rakestraw had 12 points for Hiram.
