Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 17, Centre 10

Senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) and senior midfielder Jack Damon (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored 2 goals apiece during an 8-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead for good in a non-conference win over Centre in the Bishops' season opener on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

Anton had put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a transition goal courtesy of an assist from senior defenseman Miles Rathell (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) at the 10:54 mark of the first quarter, and senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) followed with a goal just over a minute later.

Centre got on the scoreboard with a David Caldwell goal midway through the quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan got goals from senior midfielder Conor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller), Anton, and junior midfielder Jared Friesen (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills) to take a 5-1 lead late in the period.

The Colonels reeled off the next 6 goals, getting a man-up score from Will Hubbs in the final seconds of the first quarter, then scoring 4 times in a span of 3 minutes before a Paxton Brown goal gave the visitors a 7-5 advantage at the 9:53 mark.

Ohio Wesleyan pulled closer with a score by freshman midfielder Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School), then scored 3 times in less than a minute -- including scores by Damon and Anton just 9 seconds apart -- as the Bishops took a 9-7 lead at the intermission.  The Bishop run continued with 4 straight goals to open the second half, with Hasenberg contributing a goal and an assist during that portion of the run.

Anton led the Bishops with 5 goals and 2 assists, Hasenberg finished with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Damon scored 3 goals.

Sophomore Paddy Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) stopped 2 shots during the first 20-plus minutes of play, and freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) had 8 saves during the final 39-plus minutes.

Hubbs led Centre with 3 goals and an assist.  Ramsay Cole made 5 saves during the first 35-plus minutes, and Avi Leffler was credited with 7 saves during the final 24-plus minutes.
