7th of 9 at NCAC championship
Junior Levi Kilian (Ault, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy) won a conference championship to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday in Springfield.
Wabash won the conference championship with 151½ points to 88 for Wooster. Wittenberg finished third with 87 points, followed by Denison (84), DePauw (78), Oberlin (69), Ohio Wesleyan (65½), Allegheny (47), and Kenyon (30).
Kilian won the 800-meter run in 1:53.15. It was Kilian's second all-conference citation in the event, following a second-place finish in 2020. The time broke the school record of 1:53.19 set by Sharif Kronemer in 2011.
Kilian also ran a leg on the Bishop 1600-meter relay team, combining with junior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), freshman Trey Theobald (Archbold), and freshman Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts) for a fourth-place finish.
All-NCAC honors also went to senior Joey Verdugo (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Upper Sandusky), who finished second in the pole vault to claim his third All-NCAC honor in the event; and senior Christian DeWiggins (Marysville), who placed second in the weight throw.
Other standouts for the Bishops included senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley), who was fourth in the weight throw; senior Cooper Berry (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug), who finished fifth in the pole vault and eighth in the high jump; senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who placed sixth in the weight throw; Morris, who was sixth in the 400-meter dash; Bauer, who placed seventh in the 400-meter dash; and junior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who tied for eighth in the pole vault.
The Ohio Wesleyan 800-meter relay team of Theobald, junior Zach Murrey (Logan), freshman Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and Bauer placed seventh.
