Junior Kaito Iwasaki (Sendai, Japan/Sendai Daini), junior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), freshman Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), and senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) won events for Ohio Wesleyan at the Bob Shannon Invitational, hosted by Denison University on Saturday in Granville.
Division II opponent California (Pa.) won the meet with 121 points to 112 for Ohio Wesleyan. Wooster finished third with 106 points, followed by Denison (103), Wittenberg (57), Kenyon (54), and Capital (21).
Iwasaki won the 60-meter hurdles in :08.66 and finished seventh in the 60-meter dash.
Bauer won the 400-meter dash in :52.47, while Morris won the 800-meter run in 2:03.74. The duo teamed with freshman Trey Theobald (Archbold) and junior Levi Kilian (Ault, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy) to win the 1600-meter relay in 3:32.65.
Walker won the weight throw with a mark of 50-2¾.
Other standouts for the Bishops included Theobald, who finished third in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash; Kilian, who was third in the mile run; senior Joey Verdugo (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Upper Sandusky), who placed third in the pole vault; senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who placed third in the weight throw; freshman Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales), who was fourth in the 800-meter run; senior Cooper Berry (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug), who placed fourth in the pole vault; junior Luke Waryck (North Ridgeville/Avon), who finished fourth in the shot put; senior Christian DeWiggins (Marysville), who finished fourth in the weight throw; junior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who was fifth in the pole vault; sophomore Antonio Sonego (Medina), who placed fifth in the shot put; freshman Preston Pethtel (Heath), who was sixth in the mile run; freshman Logan McSwords (Marysville), who was sixth in the high jump; and sophomore Dylan Liggett (Medina/Highland), who finished eighth in the long jump.
