Senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored 2 goals apiece as Ohio Wesleyan built a 9-4 halftime lead, but John Carroll rallied to tie the game at 11 and got the game-winner with :22 remaining to defeat the Bishops on Saturday in University Heights.
The Blue Streaks had taken a 1-0 lead on an Ian Flynn goal in the opening minute of the game, but the Bishops stormed back with 3 goals in a span of 45 seconds. Anton started the microburst with a score, then senior defenseman Carter Haskel (Denver, Colo./East) won the ensuing face-off and drove to the goal, firing a shot that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead just 8 seconds after Anton's goal. Wiseman followed with a goal at the 9:21 mark for a 3-1 Bishop lead.
Anton and senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) added goals later in the opening quarter, and Ohio Wesleyan closed out the second quarter with scores by freshman midfielder Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School), junior midfielder Brody Leinson (Littleton, Mass.), and Wiseman to take a 9-4 lead at the break.
John Carroll scored the first 4 goals of the third quarter, with Matt Berdysiak scoring twice, to close to within 9-8 midway through the quarter.
Wiseman ended that Blue Streak run with a score at the 5:52 mark, and Anton followed with a goal for an 11-8 Ohio Welseyan lead with 3:29 remaining.
Morgan Morrell scored for JCU just 24 seconds later, and Berdysiak added a score as the hosts pulled within 11-10 heading into the fourth period. Kevin Hack tied the game with 5:51 left in regulation time.
Freshman goalkeeper MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) stopped a shot by Morrell with 3:39 left to preserve the tie.
John Carroll's Alexander Sykas forced a turnover with 1:24 remaining, and the Blue Streaks worked for a shot until Berdysiak found the back of the net with :22 to play.
Senior defenseman Joe Connor (Barrie, Ontario/Everest Academy) picked up the ensuing face-off to give the Bishops a chance at the tying goal, but senior attacker Luke Swaddling (Strongsville/Lakewood St. Edward) saw his shot in the waning seconds stopped by John Carroll keeper Jon Gaglio.
Wiseman led Ohio Wesleyan with 3 goals and an assist, and Anton finished with 3 goals. Scholl stopped 13 shots in the Bishop crease.
Hack had 4 goals and an assist and Berdysiak scored 4 goals for John Carroll. Gaglio was credited with 12 saves for the Blue Streaks.
