Capital 13, Ohio Wesleyan 3
Senior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) scored one run and drove in another to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 3-0 lead, but Capital came back for a non-conference win on Wednesday in Columbus.
Russo was hit by a pitch to lead off the Bishop second inning, then moved to second on an infield out, took third on a fly ball, and scored on a balk. Junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) then reached on an error by Capital pitcher Kyle Bowles, stole second, and later scored on a single by senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson).
The Bishops added a run in the third as sophomore outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) led off with a walk and stole second. One out later, Russo lined a triple to right center to score Padilla.
Capital pushed across a run in the third and took the lead with 4 runs in the fourth, highlighted by Logan White's 2-run single. The Comets tacked on 3 more runs in the fifth with the help of a 2-run single by Tyler Knapp, and ended the game with 5 runs in the eighth, capped by Ryne McKinney's grand slam.
Russo was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan. Junior righthander Michael Lipscomb (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) was charged with the loss in relief.
Tyler Sickles was credited with the win for Capital.
