Freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard with a first-quarter goal, but second-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology pulled away during the second period and went on to a non-conference win over the Bishops on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Ryan Barnable fed Quinn Commandant for a goal in the opening minute of play, then scored at the 12:08 mark as the visitors broke to a 2-0 lead. Luke Pilcher added a man-up goal midway through the first quarter, and Barnable and Ryan Rosenblum followed with goals.
Wiseman rang up an unassisted goal with 1:12 remaining in the first period.
RIT opened the second quarter with scores by Barnable and Andrew Powlin, then tallied 5 times during the last 5-plus minutes of the period, with Rosenblum scoring twice, to extend the lead to 12-1 at the half.
Junior midfielder Brody Leinson (Littleton, Mass.) and senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) scored goals to open the third quarter, and junior midfielder Jared Friesen (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills) added a goal during the final minute of the period. Senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola), Anton, and senior midfielder Conor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller) scored goals during the fourth quarter.
Anton led the Bishops with 2 goals. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) made 10 saves during the first half and junior Carl Mazabras (New Canaan, Conn.) had 5 saves during the second half.
Barnable led the Tigers with 3 goals and 3 assists. Drew Hutchinson made 6 saves during the first half, Will Sterrett had 4 saves during the second half, and Kyle Burbank finished the game in the RIT crease.
