Senior shortstop Colin Spranger (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) smashed a grand slam as Ohio Wesleyan wiped out a 5-0 deficit, and senior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) singled home the first run of an 8-run uprising that lifted the Bishops over Olivet in Ohio Wesleyan's season opener on Wednesday at Littick Field.

The Comets took a 4-0 lead in the second frame, getting a sacrifice fly by Sylas Woll and an RBI double from Matt Hewitt before 2 runs scored on Russo's fielding error.  Olivet added a run in the fifth on Gabriel Kirck's run-scoring double.

Junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) led off the Bishop fifth with a walk, chasing Olivet starter Andrew Vendzuh.  Senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) was hit by a pitch before sophomore outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) singled home a run to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard.  After a walk to senior first baseman Izaiah Withrow (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) loaded the bases, Spranger launched a ball down the leftfield line to even the game at 5.

The Bishops took the lead in the seventh on a Padilla single, a walk to Spranger, and an RBI single by Russo.  Sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) and Neff added RBI singles later in the inning, and a 2-run single by Padilla wrapped up the rally.

Olivet came back in the ninth, crossing the plate 4 times with the help of a 2-run single off the bat of Woll.

Padilla went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI for Ohio Wesleyan, while Spranger knocked in 4 runs and Withrow was 2-for-4.  Junior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) tied a school record by drawing 4 walks in the game.

Sophomore righthander Jason Monos (Amherst/Steele) made the start on the mound for Ohio Wesleyan, scattering 5 hits and striking out 6 over the first 4.0 innings.  Freshman righthander Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) allowed 4 hits and 1 run over the next 4.0 frames to pick up the win in relief.
