Bluffton Sweeps Baseball

Junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) doubled home 2 runs to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 4-3, but Bluffton withstood the comeback and went on to a win in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday in Bluffton.

In the opener, senior first baseman Izaiah Withrow (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) drove in a run to put the Bishops on the scoreboard, but the Beavers went on to take the win.

Bluffton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap on an RBI double by Jake Baumgartner, but the Bishops got the run back in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville).  The Beavers answered with a 2-run triple by Kenny Schneider in the bottom of the inning and added a run-scoring single from Jack Towell in the third.

With 2 down in the fifth, freshman third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) and senior catcher Ralph Good (Marble, Colo./Roaring Fork) singled and both runners scored on Neff's double.

Bluffton got the runs back in the bottom of the inning with the help of Garrett O'Reilly's RBI double and added 2 runs in the seventh and a 2-run homer by Jeff Strayer in the eighth.

Neff went 3-for-4 and Stefancin was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Sophomore righthander Josh Ferreira (Raynham, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey (R.I.)) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Carson Curnutte recorded the win for Bluffton.

The Beavers took the lead in the opener with an RBI double from Strayer in the first and got RBI singles by Adam Yoh in the second and sixth innings.  Bluffton pushed across 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Schneider's 2-run single.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the eighth when sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) singled, Neff doubled, and Withrow singled home Monaco.

Neff was 2-for-4 for the Bishops.  Sophomore righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

O'Reilly pitched the complete game for Bluffton.
