Senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) and freshman attacker Carson Geier (Milford) each scored a pair of first-half goals and senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) scored 5 times during the second half to help Ohio Wesleyan pull away for a non-conference win over Albion on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.
Anton scored back-to-back goals to kick off a 4-0 game-opening run for the Bishops, with senior attacker Luke Swaddling (Strongsville/Lakewood St. Edward) and senior midfielder Conor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller) following with scores.
Albion rallied to within 5-3 after scores by Jace Conley and Sam Puzevic midway through the second quarter, but Geier closed out the first-half scoring with a pair of goals that gave the Bishops a 7-3 lead at the half.
Freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) opened the second-half scoring with a goal, then senior midfielder Chris Ciampi (Rye, N.Y.) won the ensuing face-off, bolted down the field, and scored just 8 seconds later to increase the margin to 9-3.
The Britons narrowed the gap to 10-6 with goals from Conley and Puzevic, but Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 5-1 run, capped by a pair of Hasenberg goals, to open up a 15-7 lead late in the third period. Hasenberg would score twice more during a 4-0 fourth-quarter burst that helped Ohio Wesleyan put the game away.
Hasenberg led the Bishops with 5 goals and an assist, while Geier finished with 3 goals. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) made 9 saves during the first 55-plus minutes and junior Carl Mazabras (New Canaan, Conn.) finished up in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.
Conley led Albion with 4 goals and 2 assists. Jack Erickson had 4 saves during the first half, Bradley Luketic made 6 saves during the second half, and Jack Gogonis finished the game in the Briton crease.
