Sophomore attacker Sophia Staples-Roy (Hopkinton, N.H.) scored to even the game at 2, but 20th-ranked Denison opened the second period with 4 straight goals and went on to post a win over Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday in Granville.
The decision snapped Ohio Wesleyan's school-record winning streak at 8 games.
The Big Red had taken an early lead on a goal by Ana Ortiz DeRosa just over a minute into the game, but junior midfielder Evie Williams (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School) answered for Ohio Wesleyan.
That pattern repeated when Denison retook the lead just 29 second later on an Emma Repke goal, only to see the Bishops respond with a goal by Staples-Roy midway through the period.
Anna Devuono put the Big Red ahead by converting a free-position shot early in the second quarter, and Denison got 3 consecutive scores from Ashley Viglione to build a 6-2 lead.
Junior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored in the closing seconds of the half to bring the Bishops within 6-3, but Denison opened the second half with another 4-0 run, and the Big Red put the game out of reach with a 5-0 burst in the fourth period.
