Senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and senior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) scored 4 runs apiece and sophomore outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) and senior catcher Ralph Good (Marble, Colo./Roaring Fork) each knocked in 3 runs to help Ohio Wesleyan outslug Hanover in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday in Hanover, Ind.
In the opener, sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) drove in a run to cap a 2-run fifth inning that put the Bishops on the scoreboard.
Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the nightcap on an RBI double by junior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) in the top of the first, but the Panthers tied the game when Andrew Oesterling led off the bottom of the second with a homer and Jake Danneman hit a 2-run shot later in the inning.
The Bishops loaded the bases with nobody out in the third as junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) and Graham opened the inning with singles and senior first baseman Izaiah Withrow (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) walked. Pershin drew a walk to force home Neff to make it 3-2. The Panthers got the first out when Withrow was hit by a ball off the bat of Russo, but Stefancin followed with an infield single to score Graham to tie the game and freshman third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) singled home Pershin to put the Bishops ahead. Sophomore shortstop Blake Farley (Hudson) followed with an RBI single, and Brazytis and Farley came around to score later in the inning with the help of a Panther error and a wild pitch.
Farley and Good singled home runs in the fourth and Stefancin had an RBI double during a 2-run fifth.
Ohio Wesleyan tallied 7 times in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach, with Good delivering a 2-run single, Neff drilling an RBI double, Graham doubling home 2 runs, and Russo and Stefancin drawing bases-loaded walks.
Graham went 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI, while Stafancin finished at 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Junior righthander Michael Lipscomb (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) worked the first 5.2 innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out 4 while walking none, to record the win.
Bradley McDowell was the starting and losing pitcher for Hanover.
Hanover built a 10-0 lead in the opener, getting an RBI single from Charlie Burton in the first, a bases-clearing double by Andrew Littlefield during a 4-run third, and an RBI single by Alex Christie during a 2-run fourth.
Graham belted a 1-out triple in the fifth and later scored on a passed ball, and 4 walks in the inning, the last by Monaco, forced home the Bishops' second run of the frame.
Sophomore righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
