Sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) and sophomore shortstop Sydney Hoover (Utica) knocked in runs to give Ohio Wesleyan a 2-1 lead, but Otterbein rallied to take a win in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday in Westerville.

In the nightcap, Cegledy and sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) plated 2 runs apiece during a 4-run sixth inning, but Otterbein held on to complete the sweep.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener as Savannah McCoppin drew a one-out walk, stole second, and scored on Caroline Heller's single.

Ohio Wesleyan went ahead in the third as freshman outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) and sophomore third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) opened the inning with singles and moved to second and third on a sacrifice by freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School).  One out later, Anspach walked to fill the bases.  Cegledy singled down the leftfield line to tie the score and Hoover drew a walk to force home Back with the go-ahead run.

Otterbein took the lead in the sixth when Taylor Baran drew a one-out walk and Isa Lewis followed with a run-scoring double, with Lewis coming in to score on a throwing error by Tuttle on the play.

Back was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) scattered 6 hits, striking out 8 and walking 4, in pitching the complete game.

Jess Gunter pitched the complete game for Otterbein.

After Chittum and Otterbein's Bryn Grabowski traded zeroes for 3 innings in the nightcap, the Cardinals broke the scoreless deadlock with 5 runs in the fourth, getting a 2-run double by Caroline Heller and a 2-run triple by Hannah Lewis.  McCoppin and Heller drove in runs in the fifth.

Ohio Wesleyan answered in the top of the sixth, with Tuttle and Back  opening the inning with singles.  Grabowski got the next 2 outs, but Cegledy delivered a double to score Tuttle and Back, and Anspach launched a home run to center to bring the Bishops within 7-4.

The Cardinals added some insurance during the bottom of the inning, scoring 3 times on 3 hits, including an RBI single by Macy Allen.

Anspach was 2-for-3 and Back went 2-for-4 for the Bishops.  Chittum was charged with the loss.

Grabowski pitched the first 6.0 innings to collect the win for Otterbein.
