Senior attacker Taylor Floyd (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) scored 2 goals apiece as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 7-0 run and went on to a non-conference win over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday in Cincinnati.
The win continued the Bishops' best start since 2006, when Ohio Wesleyan also won 9 of its first 10 games.
Floyd put the Bishops on the scoreboard just over a minute into the game, and junior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) followed with a goal just 7 seconds after a Lion yellow card. Freshman midfielder Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) rang up a goal 31 seconds after that, then Floyd and Klabus scored goals 22 seconds apart to make it 5-0. Klabus added a score midway through the first quarter, and sophomore midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.) increased the lead to 7-0 at the 5:19 mark of the period.
MSJ's Rachel Kyle ended the Ohio Wesleyan run with exactly 5 minutes left in the period, but the Bishops closed out the quarter with goals by junior midfielder Sarah Hanley (Farmington, Mich.) and freshman attacker Casey Conklin (Marcellus, N.Y.).
Egan, Hanley, and Klabus were among 6 different Bishops who scored during the second period, helping Ohio Wesleyan to a 15-2 lead at the intermission, and freshman attacker Samantha Diaz (Los Angeles, Calif./Compton Early College) added a pair of second-half goals.
